Welcome to Outer Limits - a stunningly comprehensive sample library featuring a massive 4 GB core library of more than 500 unique soundscapes.
It is a journey through dreams and nightmares, full of sounds beyond your imagination. Outer Limits is celebrated synthesist and well-renowned sound designer Ian Boddy's follow-up to his critically acclaimed Morphology. Every patch in this fantastic collection will stimulate your creativity.
The range of sounds this library is capable of is truly amazing, from shimmering pads, to mysterious drones, crystalline digital manipulations to dark distorted atmospheres, menacing mechanisms, evocative resonances, surreal sound effects, complex cascades, formant sheens, dark disturbing horror, analogue waves, amazing space textures, strange vocal synthesis and of course, sounds from the Outer Limits of space and time.
Patches this complex put many other synths to shame! And of course you can layer them to create incredibly complex soundscapes.
Outer Limits is also available as part of Odyssey: an amazing value compilation of eight Ian Boddy sound design libraries, including Airwaves, Ambiosis, Elektrolytic, ASL, Beatalogue, Drumalogue and Radiophonica. Click here to go to the Odyssey product page.
Note: This is the same sample library that comes with the Native-Instruments-powered plugin version of Outer Limits on DVD, except that with this download version you only get the WAV samples and Kontakt-compatible (.nki) patches, so you can use it with any software that reads WAV files, or use it with NI Kontakt! All original samples, recorded at 24Bit sample resolution for hi-fidelity.
Ian Boddy is one of the UK's most celebrated synthesists, and a veteran of the European electronic music scene since the late 1970s. Ian's exclusive arsenal of vintage and modern synths and software plug-ins have been extensively plundered together with cutting edge sonic manipulations and the audio mangling of “real” environmental sounds to create this unique and inspiring sound library.
He writes:
"Outer Limits represents the third Kontakt-compatible sound library that I have designed for Zero-G. The previous two being Morphology and Analogue Sequencer Loops (ASL). Whereas ASL was more loop orientated, Outer Limits shares with Morphology a far stronger bias toward keyboard triggered sounds. The Outer Limits instrument patches (.nki files) can be loaded into Kontakt or Kompakt, which have a whole host of sound shaping tools such as multi-mode filters, envelopes, LFOs and built in reverb / chorus & delay FX etc etc. Couple this with flexible modulation routing systems and the end user is presented with the option of completely changing and mangling whatever patch is loaded.
With Outer Limits I wanted to create a library that took sound design to places where I hadn’t ventured before. Whereas ASL was resolutely analogue in it’s sonic origins, with this sound library I used a far greater proportion of digital virtual instruments & FX. Of course I’ve still used some of my favourite analogue sound sources from various modular systems & my trusty old VCS3 but often these are further treated in the digital environment. There’s also a large proportion of the library created entirely in the virtual domain with cutting edge sonic manipulations as well as the audio mangling of “real” environmental sounds.
The sounds are organised into 20 categories that should get you to where you want to go fairly quickly within the 500 separate programs. Furthermore preview programs are provided for each category which allows for easy auditioning of the library.
The contents document can be used as a reference tool because not only does it list all the categories & programs but also provides information on the memory size, mod wheel assignments & tuning information for all the programs as well as telling you which ones are in one-shot mode.
Finally, I really hope you do invest in Outer Limits and enjoy using it as much as I do! I was constantly coming up with real sonic surprises during the programming of this library and venturing into new audio territory I hadn’t explored before. Even with 25 years of sound design experience it’s a great inspiration to come up with a sound that makes me go “What the hell is that?”. Hopefully you’ll come across some of these too and find your own inspiration within this library to take your own music to the Outer Limits!"
- the producer IAN BODDY.
IMPORTANT: THIS IS NOT A ROMPLER or PLUGIN - with this version you will simply be downloading the Outer Limits SAMPLE LIBRARY in WAV format which you can use with any music software - you DON'T get the NI "Kompakt Instrument" interface - but everything has been set up in KONTAKT patches which you also get, so if you have NI KONTAKT then all the instruments are already programmed, mapped out and playable. Kontakt makes no compromises in the playing and performing of sample-based instruments. Its powerful multi-mode filters, envelopes, LFOs and FX will give this library enormous flexibility and a wealth of creative possibilities. Load the provided .nki patches into your copy of Kontakt, or, just use the WAV files with your favourite sampling software.
